Part 5: Brisbane, Gold Coast and Byron Bay

Date: 26.12.15. (Day 7)

Destination: Brisbane – Burleigh Heads – Surfers Paradise

Accommodation: Burleigh Beach Tourist Park

We started our seventh day in the third biggest city in Australia – Brisbane. We spent the morning  visiting this sun-kissed place.

We walked one part of this route.

I love cities with a river because it provides freshness and life. Brisbane is one of them with Brisbane River.

Although it’s a very modern city, we can find a mix of styles: a classical one of St Stephen’s Cathedral and some skyscrapers around.

We spotted this lizard in the City Botanic Gardens.

In the middle of the city there’s an artificial lagoon with sand to cool off on hot days. Such a good idea!

I love this city. It’s smaller and quieter than Melbourne and Sydney. It reminds me of Valencia. It’s next to Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, two places full of beautiful beaches. It has everything you need: the beach, good weather and a lot of leisure options. I find it an excellent place to settle down.

After visiting Brisbane we went to pick up our car in order to start our eleven-day road trip to Cairns! We drove south to Gold Coast.

After popping in different campsites (a lot of them were full), we finally stayed at Burleigh Beach Tourist Park. This place is excellently located just a few meters from the beach. We put up our tent so that we could be free later.

When we finished, we headed off to Surfers Paradise. The name of this place sounds much better than it actually is. It’s extremely touristy (200.000 people a day), a lot of shops, restaurants, discos, etc. In addition, it’s said that  surfers actually prefer other places to go surfing.

You can perfectly skip this paradise unless you’re looking for shops and lively nightlife.

At this beach we finished our seventh day in Australia.

Date: 27.12.15. (Day 8)

Destination: Burleigh Heads – Coolangatta – Surfers Paradise

Accommodation: Burleigh Beach Tourist Park

Our eighth day started on Gold Coast at our campsite at the beach. After having breakfast we went to Coolangatta, a place full of perfect beaches for surfing. We just took a dip.

In the background you can see Surfers Paradise and its skyscrapers.

Later we drove to the super famous coastal village Byron Bay. The atmosphere is very quiet and relaxing on the coast of the Coral Sea. There’re a lot of shops that sell surf clothing. We bought a pair of items. It’s a place where I’d really love to go back with more time.

We ended our day again in Surfers Paradise. We took the advantage and purchased some things like the boots “UGG Australian Made”. This brand is made in Australia unlike the typical UGG that are produced in China. They are made with Australian sheep’s wool and are very warm.

In the next post we are leaving Gold Coast to explore Sunshine Coast, paying special attention to Noosa. It’s an incredible place with green beaches and amazing houses. I’d love to live in this beautiful place. Stay tuned!!
