The Nutella that we buy in a supermarket tastes really good, but it isn’t very healthy. It contains a lot of sugar, palm oil and very few hazelnuts.
That’s why we decided to make a healthy homemade version using natural ingredientes and adding a lot of hazelnuts. It tastes as good, but its quality is much better.
200 gr hazelnuts
75 gr extra virgin coconut oil
125-150 gr milk (we used oat milk)
45 gr raw cacao powder
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (optional)
A squirt of honey
2 teaspoons of powdered or brown sugar
1). Roast hazelnuts in the oven (about 12 min.) or in a pan (a bit quicker). We didn’t peel the hazelnuts, but some people do.
2). Blend the hazelnuts in a food processor or in a blender in our case. Add the dates and blend again.
3). If the coconut oil is solid, heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave and add into the mixture.
4). Add the rest of the ingredients: raw cacao powder, powdered sugar, honey, vanilla extract. The first time we made this recipe, we didn’t use powdered sugar, but this way it tasted a bit bitter. It has a better flavour with a bit of powdered or brown sugar. The dates also help sweeten it. Add more or less milk depending on the consistency you want for your Nutella.
5). Blend everything. With this recipe you get about 450 gr of Nutella.
Keep it in the fridge if you want to preserve it for over a week as it doesn’t contain any preservatives and goes off more quickly.
I hope you’ll enjoy this healthy homemade version!
